Claude Cowork on the web

Since July 7, 2026, Cowork itself runs from claude.ai in the browser (Max plan first, with remote sessions in beta) — while deep local-file workflows still live in the desktop app. Here's what works on the web and where the desktop still takes over.

Why Cowork runs on the desktop

Claude Cowork is an agent that works on your computer — it reads and edits files in your folders, acts across connected tools, and can run tasks on a schedule. Those abilities need local access that a web tab can't safely provide.

So the browser is great for chatting with Claude, but to delegate a whole job — meeting prep, folder cleanup, recurring reports — you open the Claude desktop app on macOS or Windows and use Cowork there.
