Claude Fable 5: What It Costs on Each Plan

Anthropic's most capable model returned on July 1, 2026 and is available inside Cowork, Claude.ai, and Claude Code. Its billing works differently from every other model — here is how it breaks down.

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from your Claude account settings. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

What happens when I hit my usage limit? expand_more

On Pro, you may experience slower responses or temporary rate limiting during peak hours. Max subscribers get priority access and significantly higher limits before any throttling.

Is there a free trial for Cowork? expand_more

Cowork requires a paid subscription (Pro or higher). There's no separate free trial, but you can start with Pro at $20/month to try it out.

Does Cowork use more of my usage allocation? expand_more

Yes. Cowork tasks are compute-intensive because they involve multi-step autonomous execution. A single complex task may use significantly more tokens than a regular chat conversation.

Is Claude Fable 5 included in my subscription? expand_more

Partially, for a limited window. After Fable 5 returned on July 1, 2026, Anthropic included it on Pro, Max, Team, and select Enterprise plans for up to 50% of your weekly usage limits — an offer extended through July 12, 2026. After that, Fable 5 access requires enabling usage credits on your account.

How much does Fable 5 cost with usage credits? expand_more

Fable 5 is metered at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens — exactly double Opus 4.8's API rates. Usage credits are prepaid: you enable and top them up from your Claude account settings, and Fable 5 sessions draw from that balance instead of your weekly plan limits.
