Claude Cowork Goes Desktop, Web & Mobile

On July 7, 2026, Anthropic took Cowork beyond the desktop app: it now runs from claude.ai in the browser and from the Claude app on iOS and Android, with sessions executing remotely in the cloud. An independent look at what shipped, what it changes, and what to watch next.

Cowork on the web

Cowork is now reachable directly from claude.ai in any browser — no desktop install required to start and manage agent tasks.

smartphone

Mobile via the Claude app

On iOS and Android, Cowork lives in the sidebar of the existing Claude app. There is no separate Cowork app to download.

cloud_sync

Remote sessions (beta)

Sessions run in the cloud and are saved to your Claude account. Start a task at your desk, check status on your phone, and pick up the output later.

laptop_mac

Works with the laptop closed

Because execution is remote, tasks keep running after you shut your laptop — and scheduled tasks fire with no device online at all.

dashboard

Unified Chat + Cowork interface

Chat and Cowork now share one home: a single place for your projects and artifacts across both surfaces.

Doubled usage limits

As part of the expansion, Anthropic extended doubled Cowork usage limits through August 5, 2026 — a good window to stress-test it.

Try the Cross-Device Flow

01

Start on any device

Open Cowork from claude.ai, the desktop app, or the Claude mobile app sidebar (Max plan first) and kick off a task.

02

Walk away

The session runs remotely against your Claude account. Close the laptop, switch devices — the task keeps going.

03

Pick up the result anywhere

Check progress from your phone, steer mid-task if needed, and collect the finished output wherever you log in next.

Our Take: From Desktop App to Cloud Service

Cowork launched in January 2026 as a desktop-only agent, and that was always its biggest structural limitation: the session lived and died with one machine. The July 7 update quietly changes Cowork's architecture, not just its reach — with remote sessions, Cowork stops being an app pinned to your computer and becomes a cloud service you happen to view from a desktop, a browser tab, or a phone.

In practice this upgrades the delegation workflow that Cowork was designed around. Long-running tasks no longer require a machine that stays awake; scheduled tasks fire with no device online; and the phone becomes a legitimate monitoring surface — status checks and mid-task steering rather than a cramped attempt at desktop work. Files and sessions now persist in your Claude account, which is also worth understanding from a data-location standpoint if you work with sensitive material.

The rollout reality: this starts with the Max plan and expands over several weeks, so Pro subscribers are watching from the sidelines for now. The doubled usage limits running through August 5 make this a cheap window to find out whether remote sessions fit your workflow before committing to a plan upgrade.

What we're watching next: whether Pro and Team plans get web and mobile access before the promo window closes, whether mobile grows real capabilities beyond monitoring (local file access seems unlikely on phones), and how usage accounting for remote sessions evolves. We'll keep this page and the changelog updated as Anthropic ships.

Web & Mobile FAQ

Is there a separate Claude Cowork mobile app? expand_more

No. On iOS and Android, Cowork appears in the sidebar of the existing Claude app. On computers you can use the desktop app or simply open claude.ai in a browser — Cowork now works there too.

Which plans get Cowork on web and mobile? expand_more

The rollout started July 7, 2026 with the Max plan and is expanding over the following weeks. Anthropic says more plans will follow; as of this writing, Pro access hasn't been announced with a date.

Does my task really keep running when I close my laptop? expand_more

Yes — that's the point of remote sessions (currently in beta). Sessions and files are saved to your Claude account and execute in the cloud, so closing your laptop doesn't interrupt the work, and scheduled tasks run with no device online.

Can the mobile version do everything the desktop app does? expand_more

Not yet. Mobile is strongest for starting tasks, checking status, steering mid-task, and picking up results. Deep local-folder access and desktop-file workflows remain the desktop app's territory.

How long do the doubled usage limits last? expand_more

Anthropic extended doubled Cowork usage limits through August 5, 2026 as part of the mobile and web expansion.
